TLDR Minoxidil was the most effective treatment for hair regrowth in rats compared to Aminexil or Kerium.
In a 2016 study, researchers tested the effectiveness of three topical hair regrowth treatments—2% minoxidil, Aminexil, and Kerium—on 32 adult female Wistar-Bratislava rats. The rats were divided into four groups, with each group receiving a different treatment on shaved areas of their backs for 28 days. The study found that 2% minoxidil significantly induced hair regrowth, with a 61.7% anagen induction rate, which was the highest among the treatments. Kerium also significantly induced hair regrowth with a 41.4% anagen induction rate, while Aminexil showed the least effect. The number of hair follicles in the anagen phase increased for the minoxidil and Kerium groups, but skin thickness did not vary significantly. Trichoscopy confirmed minoxidil as the most effective treatment. The study concluded that 2% minoxidil was more effective than Aminexil or Kerium in promoting hair regrowth in this rat model.
