TLDR Higher DKK-1 levels found in hair loss patients; L-ascorbic acid 2-phosphate, L-threonate, and ginsenoside F2 may help promote hair growth.
This study found that tissue levels of DKK-1 were significantly higher in patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and alopecia areata (AA) compared to controls. DKK-1 was higher in male patients with AGA than in female patients with AGA and was negatively correlated with disease duration in AGA. The study suggests that DKK-1 may play a role in the pathogenesis of AGA and AA and may be a promising therapeutic target for these hair diseases. Additionally, the study found that L-ascorbic acid 2-phosphate and L-threonate inhibited DHT-induced DKK-1 expression in cultured hDP cells, and ginsenoside F2 may be a potential new therapeutic option for hair growth promotion.

community Fats on your Head to Stop Hair Loss?

      in Research/Science  142 upvotes 10 months ago
The conversation discusses the potential of long-chain unsaturated fatty acids, like oleic and linoleic acid, as an additional treatment for hair loss, which may inhibit the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone to DHT and promote hair growth. Users humorously suggest using oils topically and discuss other hair loss treatments, but the main focus is on the science behind fatty acids and their role in hair health.

The conversation discusses Fevipiprant, an asthma drug that may block CRTH2 and potentially stop male pattern baldness (MPB) without inhibiting DHT. It also mentions the use of finasteride and dutasteride for hair loss.

The conversation is about using vitamin C and Magnesium L-Threonate for hair growth by reducing DHT binding to dermal papilla cells. The original post about vitamin C's pH levels and sebum control was possibly removed by a moderator.

community A concise, easy-to-understand post on Androgenic Alopecia theory and its practical applications

      in Research/Science  92 upvotes 2 years ago
The mechanism of Androgenic Alopecia and practical applications of treatments like Minoxidil, Finasteride, RU58841, dermarolling, scalp massages, anti-fungals, progesterone, estrogen, PPAR-γ activators, reducing oxidative stress, and scalp exercises. It explains why DHT is important in AA and how other factors might be involved such as hypoxia, increased DKK-1 expression, morphological changes to the scalp, skull growth during childhood/puberty, and blood flow.
