The Effect of Topical Minoxidil on Hair Follicular Cycles of Rats
May 1990
in “Journal of Dermatology”
TLDR Minoxidil speeds up hair growth in rats without prolonging growth phase.
This study examined the effect of topical minoxidil on hair follicular cycles in rats. The results showed that minoxidil shortened the telogen phase and accelerated the cyclic growth of hair follicles during the 3rd and 4th cycles. However, there was no evidence of a prolonged duration of the anagen phase. The study concluded that the model could be useful for primary screening of drugs and for studying the fundamental actions of drugs on follicular cyclic growth.
