Surgical Excision of Acne Keloidalis Nuchae with Secondary Intention Healing

The study reported on the successful treatment of acne keloidalis nuchae (AKN), a chronic scarring folliculitis, in two men using surgical excision followed by secondary intention healing. This method, which allows the wound to heal naturally without primary closure or grafting, resulted in good cosmetic outcomes and no recurrence over follow-up periods of 14 and 18 months, respectively. The findings suggested that secondary intention healing might be more effective in preventing recurrence compared to other surgical methods, possibly due to more complete elimination of hair-bearing tissue and factors related to the inflammatory response.
