TLDR Acne severity is not related to the type or severity of androgenetic alopecia.
This cross-sectional study investigated the relationship between the severity of acne vulgaris and the subtype and severity of androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in 101 patients (12 male, 89 female) across five dermatology clinics. The study found that the severity of acne vulgaris was independent of both the severity and subtype of AGA, with no significant relationship between acne severity and AGA severity or subtype (p = 0.623 and 0.870, respectively). The mean age of patients with severe acne was significantly lower (p = 0.020), but gender differences were not statistically significant (p = 0.388). Thus, acne severity does not correlate with the subtype or stage of co-existing AGA.
