TLDR DPC-Exos can help regenerate hair follicles and heal wounds by activating the Wnt/β-catenin pathway.
This study explored the role of dermal papilla cell-derived exosomes (DPC-Exos) in hair follicle (HF) regeneration during wound healing. It was found that DPC-Exos stimulated fibroblast proliferation and migration, enhancing their hair-inducing capacity. When combined with neonatal mice epidermal cells, fibroblasts treated with DPC-Exos induced HF neogenesis in nude mice. Additionally, DPC-Exos accelerated wound re-epithelialization and promoted HF regeneration, with increased expression of Wnt pathway transcription factors β-catenin and Lef1. The application of a Wnt pathway inhibitor reduced these effects, indicating that DPC-Exos promote HF regeneration by activating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. These findings suggested that DPC-Exos could be a promising therapeutic strategy for regenerative wound healing.
