Involvement of RIPK1 in Alopecia Areata
September 2024
TLDR RIPK1 inhibitors might help prevent alopecia areata.
The study investigates the role of receptor-interacting serine threonine kinase 1 (RIPK1) in alopecia areata (AA). It was found that RIPK1 expression is increased in the skin of an AA mouse model, particularly in dendritic cells (DCs) and CD8+ T cells. Using RIPK1 inhibitors like Necrostatin-1s and GSK2982772, researchers observed a delay in AA onset, a reduction in DCs and CD8+ T cells in AA skin, and increased hair length in a mouse hair organ culture mimicking AA. These findings suggest that RIPK1 is involved in AA onset by modulating immune cells, and that RIPK1 inhibitors could potentially prevent AA onset.
