    TLDR The enzyme system in hair follicles is similar to the liver's and is inhibited by certain substances.
    The study characterized the dehydroepiandrosterone hydroxylating enzyme system in the hair follicle, finding it in the particulate fraction and noting its inhibition by carbon monoxide and the cytochrome P450 inhibitor metyrapone. The enzyme system was dependent on NADPH and shared major characteristics with the liver monooxygenase system.
