TLDR Women with PCOS face many health risks, but exercise, a healthy diet, and weight management can help.
Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) face increased risks of various health issues, including infertility, miscarriage, obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, sleep apnea, depression, liver disease, endometrial hyperplasia, and cancer. They are also more likely to have cesarean deliveries, which carry a high risk of early pregnancy loss. Effective therapies for PCOS, such as regular exercise, a healthy diet, and weight management, can reverse the negative effects of obesity on reproductive health, regardless of insulin resistance. Recent trials support the effectiveness of these interventions.

A 29-year-old woman is experiencing gradual hair thinning since age 15, suspects Androgenic Alopecia, and has tried 5% minoxidil with little success. She has purchased various hair loss treatments including minoxidil, dutasteride, finasteride, and spironolactone, but is cautious about starting them due to potential interactions with her ADHD medication.

A 30-year-old female with PCOS and male pattern baldness is frustrated with her endocrinologist's recommendation of only Spironolactone and minoxidil, feeling that dutasteride, finasteride, and progesterone would be more effective. Other users suggest various online sources for treatments, warn against self-medicating due to potential risks, and recommend seeking a specialized endocrinologist or considering additional treatments like Inositol, Berberine, and dermaneedling.
