TLDR Resistance exercise can reduce muscle protein issues caused by finasteride.
The study investigated the effects of 8-week finasteride treatment and resistance exercise on protein homeostasis in the skeletal muscle of 48 male Sprague Dawley rats. Finasteride significantly reduced protein synthesis and increased autophagic degradation, disturbing protein homeostasis. Resistance exercise increased both protein synthesis and autophagic degradation. When combined, the treatments decreased both protein synthesis and autophagy flux. The results suggested that resistance exercise could alleviate the disruption of protein homeostasis induced by finasteride treatment.
