TLDR Researchers created a reliable method to detect hair-growth substances in products.
In 2018, researchers developed a UHPLC-MS/MS method to detect 12 hair-growth compounds in adulterated products. The method demonstrated high linearity (r² > 0.997) and sensitivity, with LODs and LOQs ranging from 0.08-43.6 ng/mL and 0.27-145 ng/mL, respectively. Precision was within 11%, accuracy between 81-117%, and recoveries from 87 to 114% with RSD within 6%. Stability was confirmed with an RSD of less than 6% after 48 hours at 4°C. Screening of 76 samples revealed that 10% contained one or more of the detected compounds, with concentrations between 0.5-16.4 mg/g. The method is reliable for monitoring adulterated hair-growth products, ensuring public health safety.
