This study evaluated the psychosocial impact of alopecia areata (AA) on patients by comparing 70 individuals with AA to 70 matched controls. The results showed that patients with AA had significantly higher anxiety and depression scores, as well as a greater impact on their quality of life, as measured by the hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS) and the dermatology life quality index (DLQI). The findings highlight the importance for clinicians to identify and manage psychiatric comorbidities in patients with AA, even in the early stages of the condition.
