TLDR Alopecia Areata significantly reduces quality of life, especially in women, long-term sufferers, and severe cases.
This study, conducted at Jinnah Hospital in Lahore, assessed the quality of life in 124 patients with Alopecia Areata (AA) using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). The results showed that AA significantly impacts patients' quality of life, with a mean DLQI score of 6.74±4.60. The study found that females, patients with a disease duration of over 12 months, and those with severe AA experienced a more pronounced decline in quality of life. The findings highlight the need for addressing the psychological and emotional aspects of AA, particularly in these vulnerable groups.

A user has been on finasteride for 6 months and feels their hair quality has worsened, experiencing more hair loss and scalp irritation. They are considering seeing a dermatologist, while others suggest the issue might be unrelated to finasteride, possibly due to deficiencies or other conditions.

Key treatments for hair preservation include minoxidil, finasteride/dutasteride, and microneedling, with additional options like specific shampoos, oils, biotin, zinc, tretinoin, clascoterone, and low-level laser therapy. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, reducing stress, and addressing nutrient deficiencies can also support hair health.
