TLDR Low-dose finasteride and dutasteride reduce PSA levels by 27.8% in men with male androgenetic alopecia.
The study investigated the effect of low-dose finasteride and dutasteride on the PSA concentrations of men with male androgenetic alopecia whose baseline serum PSA <2.5 ng/mL. The study found that low-dose finasteride and dutasteride decreased PSA levels by 27.8% overall, with most patients exhibiting declines in PSA. Patients with higher baseline PSA levels showed a significant reduction in PSA levels, while those with lower baseline PSA levels did not. The duration of medication did not influence the reduction of PSA concentrations. The study recommends that the “multiply by 2" rule should be limited to patients whose baseline PSA levels are ≥0.5 ng/ml.
