Preliminary Study on Image Characteristics of Epidermoid Cyst Under Reflective Confocal Microscope

    This preliminary study investigated the image characteristics of epidermoid cysts using reflective confocal microscopy (skin CT). The researchers found that epidermoid cysts exhibit specific features under skin CT, such as a normal epidermis, high-refraction cystic mass-like structures in the superficial dermis, and keratinized substances within the cyst. These features showed high consistency with the typical histopathological characteristics of epidermoid cysts, including the cyst's location, morphology, and contents. The study suggests that skin CT can potentially replace histopathological biopsy for diagnosing epidermoid cysts, making the process faster, safer, and more convenient for clinicians.
