TLDR Bovine milk fats applied to mouse skin can promote hair growth similar to known hair growth treatments.
The study investigated the potential of polar lipids from bovine milk (MPL) to regulate the hair cycle in 9-week-old C57BL/6N female mice. Topical application of MPL for 3 weeks resulted in earlier progression of the hair cycle and significant promotion of anagen induction in 4 out of 6 trials, comparable to the effects of minoxidil. Histological analysis showed increased skin thickness and dorsal pigmentation, suggesting that MPL contains components capable of penetrating the dermis and regulating hair growth, potentially through the upregulation of fibroblast growth factor-7 (FGF-7). These findings indicated that MPL might have cosmetic applications for hair growth regulation.
