TLDR Inflammatory complications are rare after hair transplants but can happen months later, and checking for skin conditions before surgery is important.
The document reports on 10 cases of post-transplant inflammatory complications following hair transplantation for Androgenetic alopecia (AGA). The patients, eight men and two women, represented 0.08% of all consultations at the center. The transplant techniques used were follicular unit extraction (FUE) in seven cases and follicular unit transplantation (FUT) strip in three cases. None of the patients had scalp pathology or inflammatory dermatosis before the operation. The inflammatory complications found were lichen planopilaris (LPP) in seven cases, erosive pustulosis of the scalp (EPS) in two cases, and superficial folliculitis (SF) in one case. The study concludes that inflammatory complications after a hair transplant are rare, but can occur a few months after the procedure. It also emphasizes the importance of detecting rough forms of lichen before an intervention, highlighting the need for systematic dermatoscopic examination during the preoperative consultation.
