In 2017, a review titled "Platelet-Rich Plasma in Androgenic Alopecia: Indications, Technique, and Potential Benefits" discussed the use of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) as a treatment for androgenic alopecia, a common hair loss disorder. The review found that PRP, which contains growth factors that stimulate tissue healing, had beneficial effects on patients, including increased hair density and quality. However, it noted that different PRP preparations were being used without a standard technique. Two studies were highlighted: one involving 26 volunteers showed significant increases in hair cross-section in both the PRP and PRP-D/P groups, with greater increases in the PRP-D/P group; another with 20 patients showed that hair density significantly increased throughout the study, peaking at 3 months. The review concluded that while PRP showed promise, more rigorous studies with larger sample sizes and longer follow-up periods were needed to confirm its effectiveness.
