TLDR Plant-based therapies, like Aloe Vera and Cinnamon, may help manage PCOS symptoms with fewer side effects.
The review examines plant-based approaches as complementary strategies for managing Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), highlighting their potential to address key features like insulin resistance, hormonal imbalance, inflammation, and oxidative stress with minimal side effects. It discusses the role of oxidative stress, gut dysbiosis, and mitochondrial dysfunction in PCOS development and emphasizes the importance of the gut microbiome. The review critiques conventional treatments for their adverse effects and limited efficacy, suggesting that plant-based therapies, including herbal medicine from traditional systems like Ayurveda, offer promising alternatives. Herbs such as Aloe Vera, Cinnamon, Fenugreek, and Liquorice have shown potential in improving PCOS symptoms, and polyherbal formulations could enhance treatment efficacy and reduce costs. However, further research is needed to confirm the efficacy of these plant-based interventions.
