A Pilot Study on the Relationship Between Growth Factors and Cytokines to Blood Groups in Umbilical Cord Blood-Derived PRP

Than Thi Trang Uyen, Nguyen Thi Hoa
TLDR B blood type has the highest growth factors and cytokines in umbilical cord blood-derived PRP.
This pilot study investigates the relationship between growth factors and cytokines in umbilical cord blood-derived platelet-rich plasma (UCB-PRP) and ABO blood types. The study found that UCB-PRP from B blood type had the highest total factor concentration (3708.515 pg/mL), followed by O (830.531 pg/mL) and A (455.01 pg/mL) blood types. PDGF-BB, FGF-2, and VEGF-A were highly expressed in B blood type, while HGF was more abundant in O blood type. Cytokines IL-6, IL-7, and IL-8 were more prevalent in B blood type, with IL-7 detected across all blood types. Despite these findings, regression analysis showed weak correlations between growth factor and cytokine levels with ABO blood groups, suggesting other factors influence PRP composition. The study highlights the potential for blood group-specific PRP applications.
