A Review on Phytoconstituents and Pharmacological Properties of Sansevieria Trifasciata (Snake Plant)

Sansevieria trifasciata, commonly known as the snake plant, is a perennial plant with various traditional medicinal uses, including treatments for bronchitis, asthma, and alopecia. The plant contains numerous chemical constituents such as palmitic acid and stigmasterol. It has been confirmed to possess diverse pharmacological activities, including anti-ulcer, antibacterial, antioxidant, antidiabetic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, cytotoxic, and anticancer properties. The plant is considered safe, with an LD50 value of 774.60 mg/kg and no adverse effects observed at an oral dosage of 18,000 mg/kg in animal studies.
