TLDR PCOS is linked to hormone disorders and issues like infertility and irregular periods.
The study investigated the relationship between reproductive hormone levels and metabolic syndrome (MS) in 45 Yemeni women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) compared to 45 healthy controls. It found that 35% of PCOS patients had MS, with waist circumference and HDL-C being the most prevalent risk factors. PCOS patients showed significant increases in serum levels of luteinizing hormone (LH), insulin, testosterone (TT), and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S). Lean PCOS patients had higher TT levels than overweight/obese ones, and DHEA-S was higher in those with MS. Insulin resistance was notably higher in PCOS women with hypertension. The study concluded that there was a significant relationship between PCOS and reproductive hormone disorders, as well as associations with infertility, hirsutism, irregular menstruation, polycystic ovaries, and multiple sclerosis.
