TLDR PCOS is linked to hormone disorders and issues like infertility and irregular periods.
The study investigated the relationship between polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and reproductive hormone disorders among 45 Yemeni women aged 18-45, compared to 45 healthy controls. It found that 35% of PCOS patients had metabolic syndrome (MS), with waist circumference and HDL-C being the most prevalent risk factors. Significant increases in serum levels of luteinizing hormone (LH), insulin, testosterone (TT), and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S) were observed in PCOS patients. Lean PCOS patients had higher TT levels than overweight/obese ones, and insulin resistance was more pronounced in those with hypertension. The study concluded that PCOS is associated with reproductive hormone disorders and conditions like infertility, hirsutism, and irregular menstruation.
