TLDR Paljeong-san pharmacopuncture helps reduce symptoms of enlarged prostate by slowing tissue growth.
The study aimed to evaluate the effects of Paljeong-san pharmacopuncture (PJS) on benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in a rat model. The experiment involved 30 rats divided into 5 groups, including a sham group, a BPH model group, a finasteride-treated group, and two PJS-treated groups with different dosages. Over a 4-week period, PJS and finasteride treatments were administered, and various parameters were measured, including prostate weight, serum dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels, and gene expression related to prostate proliferation. The results indicated that PJS treatment led to a reduction in DHT concentration and gene expression associated with prostate growth, as well as a decrease in prostatic epithelial tissue thickness. The study concluded that PJS could improve BPH symptoms by inhibiting the proliferation of prostatic tissues.
