TLDR Curcuma longa L. may help reduce prostate inflammation.
In this study, benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) was induced in castrated rats using testosterone propionate, and the effects of Curcuma longa L. (CL) extract were examined. Over 4 weeks, CL was administered orally, alongside saw Palmetto and finasteride as positive controls. The results showed that CL supplementation led to histological changes and a reduction in the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β, COX-2, and phospho-p65 in prostate tissue compared to the BPH group. These findings suggested that the anti-inflammatory properties of Curcuma longa L. could play a role in inhibiting BPH progression by suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokines.
