TLDR Curcuma longa L. may help reduce prostate inflammation.
The study examined the impact of Curcuma longa L. hot water extract on inflammatory mediators in the prostate tissue of rats with benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) induced by testosterone propionate. Over 4 weeks, rats received oral doses of 25, 50, and 100 mg/kg of the extract. The findings indicated that Curcuma longa L. supplementation resulted in histological changes and decreased expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β, COX-2, and phospho-p65 in the prostate tissue compared to the BPH group. This suggested that Curcuma longa L.'s anti-inflammatory properties could inhibit BPH, indicating its potential therapeutic role in managing prostatic inflammation.
