TLDR Lygodium japonicum may help treat benign prostatic hyperplasia.
The study investigated the effects of Lygodium japonicum on benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in a rat model. BPH was induced in Sprague-Dawley rats through castration and testosterone treatment, mimicking human BPH. Lygodium japonicum was administered orally, with finasteride as a positive control. Results showed that Lygodium japonicum reduced damage to luminal and duct epithelial cells and decreased stromal and connective tissue proliferation compared to the control group. The study concluded that Lygodium japonicum could protect glandular epithelial cells and may serve as a potential treatment for BPH.
