TLDR Acne patients have higher levels of oxidative stress, but it's not clear if it causes or results from acne; antioxidants might help treat acne.
The study involved 32 acne patients and 35 healthy controls, investigating the role of oxidative stress in acne. It was found that both total oxidant status (TOS) and total antioxidant status (TAS) were significantly higher in acne patients, as was the oxidative stress index (OSI). However, these measures were not correlated with disease duration or Global Acne Grading System scores. The study concluded that oxidative stress may be involved in acne pathogenesis, but it's unclear whether it's a cause or a result of acne. Further research is needed, particularly comparing mild to moderate and severe acne patients. The study also suggested that antioxidant agents could be beneficial in acne treatment.
