TLDR Oral minoxidil effectively promotes hair growth in men with hair loss, but caution is needed for older or heart-risk patients.
The study investigated the efficacy and safety of oral minoxidil in treating male androgenetic alopecia, involving 100 males with Grade III–V hair loss. Participants took 5 mg of oral minoxidil daily for 24 weeks, resulting in a significant 20.3% increase in hair density by 28 weeks. While the treatment was generally safe and affordable, side effects such as hypertrichosis (12%), oedema, hypotension, and minor skin reactions were noted. The study concludes that oral minoxidil is effective for hair growth in men with AGA, but caution is recommended for older patients or those with cardiovascular risks.
