TLDR Recent advances in hair loss treatments show significant progress.
The 2017 document reviews therapeutic developments in trichology, particularly for androgenetic alopecia (AGA), alopecia areata (AA), frontal fibrosing alopecia, and hair transplantation. It discusses new formulations for minoxidil, the effectiveness of dutasteride and finasteride, prostaglandin analogs, low-level laser therapy (LLLT), and regenerative medicine for AGA. For AA, it highlights the success of Janus kinase inhibitors and reports on a study with 133 patients showing a 72% response rate to immunotherapy, and another study with 31 patients where oral dexamethasone induced hair regrowth in 25 patients. It also notes the potential of simvastatin-ezetimibe in AA, with 14 out of 19 patients responding. The document mentions pioglitazone for frontal fibrosing alopecia and lichen planopilaris, and a Spanish study on folliculitis decalvante involving 82 patients where rifampicin and clindamycin were most effective. It concludes that recent advances in trichological treatments are significant and represent real progress.
