TLDR Activating Notch signaling can kill basal cell carcinoma cells.
The study concluded that Notch signaling was significantly suppressed in basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) compared to hair follicles (HFs). Activation of the Notch pathway, particularly through JAG1 treatment, induced apoptosis in BCC cells by increasing Fas ligand expression and activating caspase-8. These findings suggested that targeting the Notch signaling pathway could be a potential therapeutic strategy for treating BCCs and might also be relevant for hair follicle engineering. The research involved human samples and used techniques like gene expression analysis, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry.
