TLDR Hyaluronic acid fillers for temporal lifting can cause hair loss without scarring.
The study investigates nonscarring alopecia as a complication of the posterior temple lifting technique using hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Six patients experienced significant hair loss due to compromised blood flow in the superficial temporal artery, despite treatments like hyaluronidase injections and platelet-rich plasma sessions. Hair regrowth began 3 to 4 months post-procedure. The findings emphasize the need for caution and further research into the vascular effects of this cosmetic technique, as brief vascular occlusion can lead to anagen effluvium and subsequent hair loss.
