TLDR PLLA dermal fillers can cause hair loss, but it can be treated with steroids.
This document reports a rare case of alopecia induced by poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) dermal fillers in a 48-year-old healthy woman. After receiving PLLA injections, the patient experienced hair loss in the frontal scalp region, which was successfully treated with intralesional steroid injections, resulting in complete hair regrowth. The case suggests that PLLA fillers may trigger an inflammatory response leading to hair loss, although this association is not well-documented in existing literature. The authors recommend that dermatologists inform patients about this potential side effect when using PLLA fillers, especially in the scalp area, and call for further studies to explore the link between alopecia and biostimulatory agents.
