TLDR The niosomal gel effectively delivers testosterone through the skin with fewer side effects.
The study developed a niosomal gel formulation for transdermal delivery of testosterone, aiming to improve drug delivery and minimize side effects associated with conventional steroid treatments. The gel was created using a mixture of non-ionic surfactant and cholesterol, with xanthan gum as the gelling agent. The niosomal gel demonstrated favorable characteristics, including small vesicle size (10-500 nm), high entrapment efficiency (92.17%), and good consistency, homogeneity, and spreadability. Various tests confirmed the gel's quality, and in vitro drug release patterns were comparable to industry standards. This formulation showed promise as an alternative method for delivering steroidal molecules transdermally.
