TLDR Myo-inositol with magnesium effectively reduces acne and hirsutism in PCOS patients without side effects.
This retrospective study involving 200 patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) examined the effects of a nutraceutical formulation, LEVIGON™, containing myo-inositol, microlipodispersed magnesium, and folic acid, on acne and hirsutism. Over 6 months, the supplementation significantly reduced body mass index (BMI), testosterone, free testosterone, and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) levels, improving the clinical picture of acne and hirsutism. Quality of life, assessed using the Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CADI) and Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), improved significantly, and the Ferriman-Gallwey score for hirsutism showed notable improvement. The study concluded that myo-inositol with microlipodispersed magnesium is effective in reducing acne and hirsutism in PCOS patients without side effects, suggesting excellent compliance. Further long-term randomized clinical trials are recommended to confirm these findings.

A 30-year-old female with PCOS and male pattern baldness is frustrated with her endocrinologist's recommendation of only Spironolactone and minoxidil, feeling that dutasteride, finasteride, and progesterone would be more effective. Other users suggest various online sources for treatments, warn against self-medicating due to potential risks, and recommend seeking a specialized endocrinologist or considering additional treatments like Inositol, Berberine, and dermaneedling.
