TLDR The secretome from mesenchymal stromal cells shows promise for improving facial nerve injury treatment.
The review article discusses the potential of the secretome of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) in treating facial nerve palsy. Current treatments often lead to complications and insufficient improvement, but MSC-based therapies have shown promising results in nerve tissue regeneration. The secretome of MSCs, which includes growth factors, hormones, cytokines, and enzymes, can be standardized and controlled for dosage, enhancing therapeutic potential and safety. MSCs can be isolated from various sources, including bone marrow and adipose tissue. The secretome has shown potential in aiding the regeneration of damaged organs and tissues in numerous clinical trials and has demonstrated positive effects in androgenetic alopecia (androgen-dependent hair loss) and atopic dermatitis. However, further investigation is needed to develop a final product for facial nerve palsy treatment.
