TLDR Isotretinoin effectively treats acne with low risk if dosed correctly.
This prospective study on 62 Iranian patients with severe acne vulgaris found that isotretinoin treatment over 3 months did not significantly impact metabolic syndrome markers or BMI. There were no significant changes in BMI, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, blood sugar, or waist circumference. Although some minor changes in lipid profiles were observed, they were not statistically significant, and the frequency of metabolic syndrome remained stable. The study concludes that isotretinoin is a safe and effective treatment for acne with minimal adverse effects, suggesting the need for future studies with larger sample sizes and longer follow-up periods.
