TLDR Eating junk food is linked to higher rates of PCOS and related symptoms in women.
This study investigated the association between junk food consumption and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) among 155 women aged 18-47 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The findings revealed a significant link between high-carbohydrate, high-fat diets and the prevalence of obesity and overweight in PCOS patients. Additionally, fast food consumption was associated with facial acne and excessive hair growth in some participants. The study suggests that dietary patterns may influence the development and treatment of PCOS, emphasizing the need for lifestyle interventions. Further research with larger, diverse populations is recommended to better understand the impact of diet on PCOS.
