TLDR The supplement with Myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol improves metabolic symptoms in PCOS, especially when combined with metformin.
In 2017, a study was conducted on 150 women aged 13 to 55 years diagnosed with Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to evaluate the effects of Ovacure®, a supplement containing Myo-inositol (MI) and D-chiro-inositol (DCI), alone or combined with metformin. The results indicated that the MI and DCI combination improved metabolic factors in PCOS, such as insulin resistance, lipid profile, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C), and weight control. Of the 99 participants, 17 were treated with Ovacure® alone, and 82 with Ovacure® and metformin. After 6 months, there was a significant decrease in fasting glucose, HOMA-IR, HbA1C, weight, BMI, total cholesterol, LDL, and triglycerides, while HDL increased significantly. The combination of Ovacure® and metformin resulted in a more significant decrease in weight and BMI compared to Ovacure® alone. The study concluded that a 40:1 ratio of MI and DCI should be the first-line approach in PCOS, with metformin added for those needing additional weight loss and sugar control.
