This study investigated the molecular mechanisms of pigmentation in alpaca melanocytes over-expressing miR-5110. Using high-throughput RNA sequencing, researchers identified 91,976 unigenes, with 13,262 exceeding 2000 nucleotides. Key pathways related to melanogenesis, including MAPK, Wnt, and cAMP signaling, were identified. Compared to controls, 162 genes were upregulated and 41 downregulated in miR-5110 over-expressed melanocytes. Differential expressions of genes such as DKK3, Pmel, IGF1R, CDK5, Ednrb, Kitl, Myc, and S100 were confirmed via qRT-PCR. Notably, Kitl and MAPKAPK3 emerged as candidate genes for miR-5110-regulated melanogenesis, offering new insights into pigmentation processes.
