TLDR Men with vertex baldness may have a higher risk of developing prostate cancer, but more research is needed to confirm this.
In 2018, two studies were conducted to investigate the potential link between male pattern baldness and the incidence of prostate cancer. The first study was a meta-analysis of 7 studies with 32,428 participants, which found that men with vertex baldness had a significantly higher risk of developing prostate cancer compared to men without baldness. However, no significant association was found between frontal baldness and prostate cancer. The second study was a systematic review and meta-analysis that included 15 other studies. It found no statistically significant association between baldness (any pattern) and prostate cancer risk, but a significant association was observed for vertex baldness. Both studies concluded that more comprehensive studies are needed to confirm these findings due to the heterogeneity and null results in overall analysis and most of the subgroup analyses.
