TLDR Certain immune cells are linked to non-scarring hair loss, suggesting potential for immune-targeted treatments.
This study used Mendelian Randomization to explore the relationship between non-scarring hair loss (NSHL) and immune cells in a European population of 272,100 individuals. It identified 31 immune cell phenotypes associated with NSHL, with 19 showing protective effects and 12 promoting NSHL. Key protective phenotypes included CD4+ CD8dim T cells and CD86+ plasmacytoid dendritic cells, while PDL-1 on CD14- CD16+ monocytes and CD25 on resting CD4 regulatory T cells were among the strongest promoters of NSHL. The findings suggest potential targets for immunotherapy in treating NSHL, although further research is needed, especially in more diverse populations.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

The post discusses the theory that persistent dandruff in areas prone to hair loss could be a sign of hair follicles dying due to DHT, indicating balding. The responses vary, with some users noting improvements in dandruff and hair loss with treatments like Dutasteride, while others experienced hair loss without dandruff.

Microneedling for hair restoration involves daily use of a 0.3 mm device and weekly use of a 0.5 mm device. Combining microneedling with Minoxidil can enhance hair growth.
