TLDR The hydrogel works quickly to stop bleeding and prevent infection, making it a promising first-aid bandage.
The study introduces a novel CMCS/PD hydrogel designed as a first-aid tissue adhesive for trauma emergency management, demonstrating rapid gel formation in approximately 5 seconds, strong adhesive strength, and excellent antibacterial properties. In vivo tests on rat models show that the hydrogel achieves rapid hemostasis for liver hemorrhage and tail severance, outperforming commercial hemostatic gel Surgiflo ®, and provides superior anti-infection capabilities for acute skin trauma compared to clinical disinfectant gel Prontosan ®. The hydrogel's effectiveness is attributed to its ability to destroy bacterial membranes, act as a physical barrier, and absorb wound exudate, making it a promising candidate for first-aid tissue adhesives in trauma emergency management.
