TLDR The hydrogel speeds up burn wound healing and promotes tissue regeneration.
The study developed a carboxymethyl chitosan hydrogel (Cur@CMCTS-Tk) designed to eliminate reactive oxygen species (ROS) to enhance burn wound healing. The hydrogel demonstrated significant antioxidant properties, reducing oxidative stress and promoting faster and more effective healing compared to traditional treatments. In vitro, it protected human fibroblasts from oxidative damage, and in vivo, it accelerated wound healing in a rat burn model, promoting hair follicle formation, new blood vessel formation, and orderly collagen fiber arrangement. The hydrogel showed good biocompatibility, mechanical properties, and water vapor transmittance, making it a promising therapeutic option for improving burn wound healing outcomes.
