TLDR Hormonal treatments effectively treat acne in females and could reduce antibiotic use.
The document reviewed the role of hormones and androgens in acne pathogenesis and evaluated the efficacy and side effects of various hormonal treatments, such as oral contraceptives, spironolactone, flutamide, cyproterone acetate, finasteride, and cortexolone 17α-propionate. It concluded that hormonal therapies were effective for treating acne in females and suggested that these therapies should be more widely studied and used to reduce reliance on antibiotics in acne treatment strategies.
