TLDR HDPCM treatment healed a baby's congenital skin defect caused by varicella infection.
The study reported the successful use of Human Dermal Papillae Conditioned Medium (HDPCM) to treat a 4-day-old baby boy with Aplasia Cutis Congenita (ACC) on both knees, caused by intrauterine varicella infection. After 10 days of topical HDPCM treatment, which is rich in growth factors like IGF-I, HGF, VEGF, and TGF-B1, the baby showed significant improvement with complete wound closure, reduced inflammation, and less scarring. This case highlighted the potential of HDPCM in promoting neovascularization, tissue maturation, and faster healing in ACC, a rare congenital skin defect.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

      in Research/Science  14 upvotes 1 year ago
He Shou Wu (Fo Ti) extract was found to prolong the hair growth phase, inhibit 5-alpha-reductase (like finasteride), reduce androgen receptors, and increase growth factors, potentially outperforming minoxidil in recovering hair follicle size after DHT exposure. Two compounds, emodin and TSG, are identified as responsible for these effects and warrant further investigation.
