TLDR Human hair follicles grown in vitro maintain normal keratin patterns and structure.
The study established an in vitro culture model for human hair follicles, which grew at a rate of 0.3 mm/day for up to 45 days. It demonstrated that the keratinization process in hair follicles remained stable in vitro, mirroring in vivo conditions. Key keratins such as hHa2, hHb2, hHa8, hHb4, hHa5, and hHb5 showed similar expression in both conditions. The persistence of hHa1 synthesis after 10 days in culture was attributed to insulin in the medium, which preserved follicular structure. The findings validated the in vitro model for studying hair growth and keratinization, highlighting the follicle's ability to regulate hair shaft differentiation and maintain homeostasis.
