TLDR Pig oil was found to significantly promote hair growth in rats, more effectively than Minoxidil.
The study aimed to evaluate the hair growth-promoting effects of pig oil (lard) on Wistar rats compared to the standard treatment, Minoxidil. The dorsal hair of the rats was removed, and 0.5 ml of pig oil was applied to one group, while another group received 0.5 ml of 10% Minoxidil. A third group served as a control with no application. Hair growth was measured at 15, 21, 30, and 40 days. The results showed that pig oil significantly increased hair growth, with noticeable effects starting from the 15th day and achieving normalization of hair pattern after 30 days. The effects of pig oil were more significant than those of Minoxidil. The study concluded that pig oil has a potent effect on hair regrowth, although the exact mechanism is unknown and requires further investigation. The study involved groups of five rats each, and the results were statistically significant at p<0.05 and p<0.01.
