Citrullus colocynthis Schrad was studied for its hair growth effects on albino rats, using petroleum ether and ethanolic extracts applied topically. The study found that these extracts significantly reduced the time for hair growth initiation and completion compared to control animals. The treatment also resulted in more than 70% of hair follicles entering the anagenic phase, surpassing the 67% achieved with the standard 2% minoxidil solution. The effects of 2% and 5% petroleum ether extracts were comparable to minoxidil, suggesting potential as a hair growth treatment.
