TLDR Mylabris phalerata Pall. extracts can promote hair growth effectively at low doses.
The study investigated the hair growth activity of Mylabris phalerata Pall. extracts and fractions in C57BL/6N mice. It was found that the cantharidin fraction (0.5%) and water fraction (0.5%) promoted hair growth in 100% of mice within 24 days. Notably, the cantharidin fraction (0.125%) demonstrated a strong hair growth effect, comparable to the commercial hair growth agent minoxidil (3%), in 19 days. In a spontaneous alopecia mice model, the cantharidin fraction (0.125%) also showed significant hair growth within 13 days. These findings suggested that Mylabris phalerata Pall. extracts and fractions could stimulate topical hair growth at low doses.
