TLDR Hair follicle punch grafts effectively help heal difficult wounds with few complications.
This study evaluated the effectiveness of hair follicle punch grafts in treating hard-to-heal wounds in 28 patients with conditions like pyoderma gangrenosum and vasculitic ulcers. The procedure, which involves transplanting hair-containing units into the wound bed, showed promising results due to the regenerative properties of hair follicles. Overall, 78.6% of patients experienced improved wound healing, with 57.1% achieving complete closure. The technique was particularly effective for certain conditions and received high patient satisfaction, with 81% willing to undergo it again. The study concludes that hair follicle punch grafting is a safe, minimally invasive, and cost-effective treatment for chronic wounds, recommending further research to confirm these findings.
