Chest Hair Micrografts Display Extended Growth in Scalp Tissue: A Case Report

    Ray Woods, Angela Woods Campbell
TLDR Chest hair can be successfully used for scalp hair transplants, growing longer like scalp hair.
This case report detailed the successful use of chest hair micrografts for scalp transplantation in a 65-year-old man with extensive scalp scarring from previous hair transplant complications. Over 18 months, 1,500 chest hair grafts and 500 temple and nape grafts were transplanted, resulting in chest hair growing from an average of 4 cm to 15 cm, achieving an excellent cosmetic outcome. The microsurgical single follicular unit extraction technique minimized donor site scarring and preserved adjacent follicles, allowing chest hair to adopt the growth characteristics of scalp hair. The study highlighted the potential of body hair as a viable donor source for hair transplantation, especially in cases with limited scalp donor hair.
